Utah · Founding season · 2 divisions

I got paired with three strangers. One of them ran fifteen companies.

That was a Tuesday nine on a public course here in Utah. Forty dollars, a group I'd never met, and by the back nine I'd learned more about how each of them made money than I would have at any event I've paid to attend. It kept happening, so I stopped calling it luck and built a league around it.

Who it's for

You'd join a club. You just can't get in.

I got into mine in 2019, when it was free. Today it's a wait of about a year and a half and roughly fifty thousand dollars. A friend of mine joined his in 2018 — his is a hundred and thirty-five now. I've talked to two dozen people stuck outside that door. This is for them.

Already a member somewhere? Come anyway. A few of us are. You're just not who I built it for.

Why a league

Nothing I ever signed started at a chamber mixer.

Every deal I've been glad about had a golf cart somewhere in the story. I don't think that's because golf is special. It's because nobody can keep up a front for two and a half hours.

150 minutes

You run out of small talk by the third hole

Then you start talking about what you actually do. I've learned more about someone's business waiting on a green than in any meeting I've scheduled.

New foursome, every round

You don't get to pick, and that's the point — I'd have never sat down with the guy who ran fifteen companies if a draw hadn't put me in his cart.

You don't have to organise it

Mikaela books the tee times, draws the pairings and texts you where to be. Every casual golf group I've been in died because nobody wanted that job.

How it works

What actually happens on a Tuesday.

  1. Pick your side of the valley

North (Cache & Box Elder) or South (Davis, Weber & Morgan). Your division sets where you play and who you meet — and it's confirmed on every screen before you pay.

  2. Get your tee sheet

Season schedule, course lineup, and your foursome for each round, delivered by text and email. Green fees are paid at the course at league rates — $13–$38 per nine.

  3. Play the nine

Scores count a little; showing up counts a lot. Season points for rounds played, holes won net of handicap, and guests you bring into the league.

  4. Cash in the season

Standings all summer, the Founders Cup scramble in the fall, and a members-only directory that doubles as the best contact list in your county. It's never public — the roster is for the people in it.

Divisions

Pick the drive you'll actually make.

Nobody keeps showing up to a league that's forty minutes the wrong way after work. Pick the side of the valley you live on. You can still guest into the other one whenever there's room.

Signature events

Two days a year you'd bring a client to.

The weeknight nine is the engine. These two are the ones worth taking a morning off for — eighteen holes, sponsors on the tee boxes, and a prize table.

What it costs.

Forty-eight spots a division, and the founding rate holds as long as you keep renewing. I'd rather have forty-eight people who stay than three hundred who try it once.

FAQ

Things people ask me.

Which division am I signing up for?

Utah has two. North plays Cache & Box Elder county courses (Logan, Smithfield, Wellsville, Brigham City, Tremonton). South plays Davis, Weber & Morgan county courses (Kaysville, Layton, North Salt Lake, Ogden, Eden, Morgan). You pick a division before checkout, and it's repeated in writing on every screen through payment — nobody accidentally joins a league an hour from home.

How good at golf do I need to be?

About as good as you are at karaoke — enthusiasm beats talent. Points reward showing up, holes won net of handicap, and guests you bring. Half the founding roster will be there for the other three people in the cart.

What's included, and what do green fees cost?

Membership buys your league seat: scheduling, pairings, standings, events, and the Founders Cup. Green fees go straight to the course at league rates — typically $13–$38 per nine depending on the venue. Player+ folds all season fees and carts into one number.

Do I have to buy a whole season?

No. Take a drop-in seat on a single round — you're drawn into a foursome exactly like a member, and you decide afterwards. Four guest seats are held on every tee sheet. If you join later, your first drop-in comes off the membership. See the schedule →

Is the member list public?

No, and it won't be. The directory is visible to members only — it's there so the people who paid to be in the league can find each other, not so anyone can browse a list of local business owners from the outside. Prospective members can see the courses, the schedule and the format; the roster comes with the seat.

Can I run this where I live?

Yes — that's the local champion program. You choose the market and the public courses; the league office calls the courses, books the blocks, collects payment in advance, draws the pairings and sends the texts. Markets open at twenty committed players.

Can I play the other division's rounds?

Yes — your standings live in your home division, but you can guest into the other side's rounds whenever there's room on the sheet. Plenty of members will do both nights.

What if I miss a round?

Send a colleague or client in your place — subs are legal and encouraged, and half of them end up joining. Or just take the bye; sixteen rounds leaves room for a life.

Who's behind this?

Networking Golf was founded by Utah entrepreneur Josh Zieglowsky with a simple observation: every good deal he'd done had a golf cart somewhere in the story. Mikaela, our league coordinator, runs scheduling and pairings so the league actually runs on time.

When does it start, and what if plans change?

The founding season tees off May 2027, with the pairings party in April. If your plans change before round one, we'll refund your membership in full — after that, we'll pro-rate. Golf has enough hazards.
